I am a ceramic artist that elevates wheel driven forms into contemporary vessels by pushing the harmonious and conventional boundaries of functional pottery. I am inspired by traditional Japanese ceramics, nature and everyday man-made objects. I build pots that explore overstating features of classical aesthetics in order to create vessels with drama. I use both organic and graphic carvings, stamps and holes into the surface of the clay to lead the eye around the pots and create tension, depth and help exaggerate parts of the form.
I fell in love with art at an early age. I attended Moore College of Art and Design where I studied photography and ceramics. After graduating I continued to refine my craft by apprenticing, teaching and managing clay studios. I have apprenticed for Bill van Gilder, and been a Fellow at The Steelyard. Currently I am teaching at The Steelyard, giving private lessons and a board member of The Steelyard. I live in Massachusetts with my husband and son where I exhibit and sell my works.
